Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution response!!!!!

I think this episode really illustrates how stubborn people are when it comes to the way their business is ran. Even though Dino himself thought Jamie's patty tasted better, he didn't want it. When Dino's chef said he liked it, Dino agreed to use it. I feel like this shows how Dino was fixed on the original patty before even trying Jamie's. Changing the meat used is a relatively small change. If it was such a struggle to change that, I don't see fast food chains getting healthier anytime soon. Another thing is this was just one small resteraunt, not a large chain. People love to stay where they are comfortable. They like what they get from fast food resteraunts for the price they pay. I don't think many people even want to pay a little extra for slightly healthier food. They are content and the business owners know that. I personally don't see Jamie's movement making the strides it needs to anytime soon.

Mmmmmmmmpossible research topic? :)

One topic I would be very interested in is the Fast Food Industry. It  has grown to an amazing level of popularity. Millions of people are trying to stop them, yet many more are continuing to eat it. I personally eat it quite often but realize it could be very bad for me in the long run. This is why I want to research the topic. I want to realize the specific effects my decisions will have on my body.

Blog for snops #6

Recently we watched The Social Network in class. While watching it I was able to make a few connections to both the marxist and feminist critical approaches.
From the marxist standpoint, I think some obvious factors were the character's social class and their connections. Having a bunch of Harvard students and their money working together isn't a bad situation. Many people come up with good ideas, but don't always have surrounding brain power or the money to make it possible like Mark did.
One power struggle I noticed was the twins. When their Facebook idea was "stolen", they figured they could use the power within their own family name to have the problem solved in their favor. After being made a joke of by the Dean, they realized they can't always get everything they want because they come from a powerful family.
From the feminist standpoint I noticed that women really were not a large part of this movie at all. The few were Mark's ex-girlfriend, the Standford girl that slept with Sean, the lady that works with Mark for Facebook, and Eduardo's crazy girlfriend. I would say besides the lady working for Facebook, women were not represented very well at all. They were seen as obscene or crazy or something to rate on appearence.

Blog 4 :D georgia peaches

We recently watched an episode of House in class and now we have to answer a question!!!!!The question I want to answer is "How do the morals of the story differ from your own morals?"
One thing that stood out to me was that Dr. House was willing to test out a new and unproved treatment on one of his patients. This is something I would strongly object to if I was in his situation. I feel like unless the patient has no other options, you need to try what is most trusted and reliable. Someone's life is not something to just experiment with whether you know them or not!
Another question is "which character do you sympathize with the least based on values/morals/beliefs?" and I would sypmathize the least with the girl doctor. She is all upset because she found out that House hired her because of her looks and not her medical abilities. I don't think she should see it as such a bad thing. If she wasn't a good doctor, she'd be fired. Just because she was hired over others for her looks doesn't mean she's not a talented doctor.
